January 2010 Update

 

Dear Partners,

     We hope you all had a great Christmas and are enjoying a wonderful 2010!  We are expecting great things for you this year! 

     Christmas is celebrated a little differently here than in the states.  At 10:00 Christmas Eve they get together with their extended families for dinner, which might consist of Turkey or Ham and side dishes.  Then at midnight everyone goes out into the streets and shoots off fireworks for 30 minutes or so.  Afterwards they go inside open their presents and eat tamales at 3:00 in the morning.  They spend the rest of Christmas eating and sleeping. 

     Our Christmas was a combination of our own traditions and some new Guatemalan ones, especially the fireworks.  That was so much fun!  Danyelle, Matthew, and Audra (a friend of Danyelle) joined us here in Guatemala for Christmas.  Danyelle and Audra worked in the orphanage for a week.  One of the babies, Dulce became very attached to Danyelle, she cried every time Danyelle left.  Audra brought the kids books, which they loved.  She read to them for hours.  We were able to take the kids in House of Destiny to McDonalds as part of their Christmas.  They all love ketchup and would rather drink it than eat it on their French fries.  It was so cute!

     We began the New Year working diligently on the Minister’s Training Center, Destiny School of Ministry.  In Spanish it translates, Escuela del Ministerio Destino.  After much prayer and looking at the needs of the people here, we have decided to make the school a night school, instead of a day school.  So we will begin on Monday, February 15.  We are still looking for a place to meet.  Agree with us that we find the right place at the right price! 

     There are many things we need to purchase for the school:  tables, chairs, and sound equipment are the major ones.  We would also like to help some of students with tuition. It costs them $300.00 for one year of school.  When some of them only make a $1.00 an hour, it is very expensive for them.  If you would like to help with the school or would be interested in providing a scholarship for a student please mark it on the memo line of your check .      We thank you for your faithfulness in 2009!  We love all of you and appreciate you so much.  Thank you for enabling us to be here.  We continue to pray for you daily!  Harvest comes to those who sow! We know 2010 is going to be great.  Any born again child of God, was created to win!
